Admission to the Welland Academy

The Welland Academy provides for the needs of children within the 4 to 11 age range.

Pupils will be admitted at the age of 4+ without reference to ability or aptitude using the criteria set out in this policy. Admission to our Academy is not dependent on any ‘voluntary’ contribution.

Admission Numbers

  • 60 Pupils in Reception year

For admission in September 2025, parents should apply using the Peterborough City Council’s Admission process. Applications forms must be completed and returned direct to the Council. The closing date for complete online applications is 15th January 2025. If you missed the first round of applications please ensure you submit your application for the second round by 30th April 2025.

Admissions to Secondary Schools

For parents of year 6 children, applications can be made online from 12th September until 31st October 2024. Please speak to the year 6 teachers or Mrs Norris (Assistant Principal) if you have any questions.

Appeals

There is right of appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel for unsuccessful applicants relating to admissions at age 5 (statutory school age) or above. Appeals should be made to the Academy, in writing, within twenty (20) school days of the date of refusal.

Please be aware that the regulations under Section I of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 limit the size of an infant class (a class in which the majority of children will reach the age of 5, 6 or 7 during the school year) to 30 pupils per class teacher. Admissions over this limit are only permitted in very limited circumstances.
