Rockingham Castle

Our Trip to Rockingham Castle

On Monday 5th November Year 2 took an exciting trip to Rockingham Castle. The castle was built in 1066 following the Battle of Hastings and is owned by the Watson family. After a short journey we arrived at the castle and split into our smaller groups. While some entered the castle for their tour, some of us went to visit the beautiful church and then headed into the creepy dungeons. We even had a bit of a shock when we found a prisoner locked behind a heavy door and experienced the drop toilet. We all decided we prefer what we have these days!

Then we met our tour guide Janette who took us around the beautiful castle and taught us all about the history including when the castle nearly burned down during the Civil War.

In the afternoon we explored the gardens  and looked out from the amazing viewpoint from the top of the hill. Everyone really enjoyed the day and learned lots about castles.
